Vox Pop Reading A 'Smash"

The reading at Vox Pop in the beautiful Ditmas section of Brooklyn was wonderful. Sander, his wife and the Vox Pop staff have created a unique book store experience that is truly community and culturally based.

Special thanks to Randy Nerve of the punk band The Nerve. In addition to his powerful music, his Clash covers "I Fought the Law" and Police on My Back" brought the house down before I read/spoke. And Sander's engaging interpertations of Clash/Strummer music after my performance was especially entertaining.

Thank You Roll Call

I started to put together a "thank you" list but I had to stop when it topped well over a hundred people. So, to all the people who were so welcoming and kind, thanking me for coming out to their communities to speak about Strummer, punk rock, popular culture and radical politics--I thank you for your graciousness, openness and support. You all have given me a host of memories I will cherish the rest of my life.

4,000 miles plus and running

Logged over 4,000 miles as I travelled all over the mid-west. Met hundreds of great people from Ohio to Wisconsin. I definitely will be passing through after my West Coast swing.

Iowa City lets fury have the hour

Tonight's reading/discussion at Prairie Lights was an exciting experience. The turnout was tremendous and the folks at Prairie Lights who helped set-up the event said it was the best reading they hosted there in years. Broadcast live on WSUI 910 AM and hosted by Julie Englander, the audience was engaged and asked great. thoughtful questions.

This was a tremendous way to end the mi-west leg of my book tour. Back to New York City where I will be reading at Vox Pop on Friday, February 18, 2005. Go to http://voxpopnet.net to learn more.

Tonight's reading dedicated to Arthur Miller

Arthur Miller, the great playwright/writer/actvist, died late Thursday evening. I am dedicating my reading tonight at Prairie Lights Books in Iowa City to Miller. Miller had a profound influence on my work, particularly his play "The Crucible." "The Crucible," a play written in response to and a protest against the blacklist and McCarthy, is one of the most important pieces of political popular culture made in the 20th Century.

Please join me in honoring a great cultural activist who struggled against injustice in this life, leaving behind a legacy of honor. I hope that Miller finds peace in the next world.

"I have made more friends for American culture than the State Department. Certainly I have made fewer enemies, but that isn't very difficult."
